New Swiss Guards to Protect Pope

From Zenit.org: "Today in the courtyard of the Vatican apostolic palace, 32 new recruits were added to the ranks of the Pontifical Swiss Guard, currently led by Commander Daniel Anrig."

Traditionally, the swearing of new Swiss Guards usually is done on the 6th of May because on this day many Swiss Guards sacrificed their lives to protecting Pope Clement VII in 1527 when Rome was sacked by Emperor Charles V.

According to Zenit.org, the swearing in was solemn, with Mass celebrated by the Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone with their families present.
