Are Catholics Christian?

I have an Evangelical friend who asked me:

"what is the difference between Catholics and Christians?"

I had to scratch my head for a few moments because it never occurred to me that some people didn't think Catholics are Christian. I think it is good that Evangelicals and Catholics have lively discussions on the interpretation of Scripture. Evangelicals do that with each other all the time. That's why there are so many different denominations. However, I have a big problem with any organization that says "Catholics are not Christians," because they are ignoring the history of Christianity. The name Christian predates all Protestant and Evangelical Churches by over a millennium. Many Evangelicals who think that Catholics are not Christian may be surprised to learn they accept the authority of several Catholic councils every time they pick up their Bible. The Bible didn't fall out of the sky, spiral bound with an NIV sticker on it. It has a rich Catholic history.

Any time spent studying the Church Fathers will make it abundantly clear that early Christian beliefs were Catholic. Their complete unity over the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist is only one example... Continue reading...

  2. Evangelicals are not Christians, but rather, they are pseudo-Christians. They claim to be Bible-believers but their belief prove otherwise. Take EPH 4:5: one Lord, one faith, one baptism.

Evangelicals don't believe in one Lord. To them, the Lord of Elizabeth is not God (Lk 1:43), which runs contrary to: THE LORD IS GOD in Dt 4:35, 39; Jos 22:34; 1 Kgs 8:60, 18:21, 39; Jdth 16:2; Ps 100:3, 118:27, etc.

Evangelicals don't believe in one faith. From the Catholic faith founded by the Lord and God Jesus Christ in 30 AD, they apostatized into the newly invented Evangelical faith founded by depraved religious entrepreneurs in the 20th century AD.

Evangelicals don't believe in one baptism. They flaunted the word of God by having multiple baptisms in various mediocre faiths not founded by the Lord and God Jesus Christ.

Good for them that the Catholics, which they disdained so much, are praying for the salvation of their souls through the Holy Eucharist, the Holy Rosary, novena, 3 o'clock Prayer, etc.
