"The Christianity of history is not Protestantism. If ever there were a safe truth it is this, and Protestantism has ever felt it so; to be deep in history is to cease to be a Protestant." (-John Henry Newman, An Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine).

"Where the bishop is, there let the people gather; just as where ever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church". -St. Ignatius of Antioch (ca 110 AD)a martyr later thrown to the lions, wrote to a church in Asia Minor. Antioch was also where the term "Christian" was first used.

“But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15

"This is the sole Church of Christ, which in the Creed we profess to be one, holy, catholic and apostolic." -CCC 811

Women Bishop Vote Threatens to Split Church of England

Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams
CNN News Blog - The Church of England inched closer to allowing women bishops this weekend, with a vote that traditionalists warned could split the church.

The church's governing body narrowly rejected a measure that would allow parishes that oppose women bishops to have an additional male bishop.

The proposal, floated by Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams (pictured) - the titular head of the Church of England - was an attempt to satisfy conservatives.

Campaigners for women bishops hailed the vote as a victory.

But traditionalists said the ballot "has made it very difficult for those who in conscience cannot accept the ministry for women priests and bishops."

The vote happened Saturday at the General Synod, the three-times-a-year meeting that sets policies for the Church of England.

Williams, who is also nominal head of the worldwide Anglican Communion, proposed the measure along with John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York.

The rejection of the compromise was greeted with a "slightly stunned silence," said the Rev. Miranda Threlfall-Holmes.

"Everyone was aware instantly of how close it was, [with] a slight gasp from everybody, thinking, 'Oh no, we only lost that by the skin of our teeth' or 'only passed that by the skin of our teeth,'" she said Sunday.

The Church of England is probably still a couple of years away from having women bishops. If this week's General Synod approves them, as expected, parishes across the church then have at least a year to consider the matter before a future General Synod casts a final vote on the issue.

Chris Sugden of the conservative Anglican Mainstream movement said the vote showed that conservatives were actually the majority.

"Although this group is portrayed as a minority, those who do not want a winner-take-all, scorched-earth policy, are a majority in Synod," he said.

He denied that the vote was about whether or not to ordain women bishops, saying the Church of England had already decided to go ahead with that.

Instead, Sugden said, the vote was about keeping the church together.

The failed compromise was so "that those who cannot accept women bishops can still be part of the Church of England," he said. "We believe in freedom of conscience, in religious freedom," he said of conservatives.

But he said a split was not inevitable, with two days to go before the General Synod concludes.

"Forty-eight hours is a long time in the life of a synod," he told CNN Sunday. "There is a lot of water to flow under the bridge. A lot of conversations are taking place."

The Catholic Group in Synod, another conservative group, suggested it would continue to fight against women bishops.

"The process in General Synod is not over and we would wish to be involved in the ongoing discussions as to a way forward that includes all loyal members of the Church of England," it said in a statement.

But a campaign called Women in the Church hailed the vote.

"We're tying hard not to use the word victory, but yes it is," said Sally Barnes, a Women in the Church representative.

"You can't have a church where we're all supposed to be one in Christ and then treat women as if it's the faulty half of creation," she told CNN Sunday.

"People don't need protecting against women, it's not a Christian concept. It's not how Christ treated women," she argued.

Under Church of England rules, for a measure like the one proposed by Williams and Sentamu to pass, it needed majority support from three different groups: bishops, priests and lay leaders.

Bishops and lay leaders backed the measure, but priests narrowly rejected it, meaning it failed.

The Anglican Communion - of which the Church of England is the British branch - is the world's third-largest Christian denomination, with about 77 million members worldwide.

It's facing serious strains over the ordination of women bishops and gay priests, and the Catholic Church has reached out to disaffected Anglicans, raising the possibility that conservatives could leave en masse.

Catholic Church and Catholics in Islamic States

Amidst persecution and threats from extremists in the Islamic states in the Middle East, the Catholic Church of Christ is vibrant, being animated by Catholic Arabs who maintained their Catholic identity for centuries. In some Islamic States, Catholic expatriates witness Christ in their daily lives as overseas workers from Asian third world countries.

Thanks to the Pontificate of Benedict XVI, the Successor of St. Peter, who reaches out to non-Catholics and non-Christians for mutual dialogue to further mutual understanding between religions, The visit of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques of Makkah and Madina, His Royal Highness King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, with the intent of building a Catholic Church in the Kingdom (read here).

Note: the Catholic Church of Christ is founded by Jesus Christ in Jerusalem in 33 A.D. Benedict XVI is the 265th Pope of the Universal Church of Christ from the time of St. Peter whose See was established in the Eternal City of Rome. Vatican City is an independent state, the seat of the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic Church of Christ making it the smallest country in terms of land area and population yet has the biggest number of members worldwide.

Here are my sources:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

There are over 250,000 foreign workers in the country who are Catholics, representing around 7% of the total population, largely Filipinos, Indians, Americans, Lebanese, and Europeans. The United Arab Emirates forms part of the Apostolic Vicariate of Arabia and the Vicar Apostolic Bishop Paul Hinder is based in Abu Dhabi.

However, the total number of Christians is more.

Churches in the Region

•St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Abu Dhabi
•St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubai
•St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Jebel Ali
•St. Michael's Catholic Church, Sharjah
•St. Mary's Catholic Church, Al Ain
•Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Fujairah
•Fujairah Sub Centres in Kalba, Khorfakkan and Dibba

KUWAIT

There are over 140,000 Roman Catholics in the country - representing about 6% of the population.

There are no dioceses in the country, but Kuwait has the status of an Apostolic Vicariate. The current superior is the Italian Bishop Camillo Ballin. There is a cathedral in Kuwait City dedicated to the Holy Family.

LEBANON

There are about one million Catholics in Lebanon , the majority of who are not Roman Catholic, but instead follow a number of different rites of the Catholic church - mostly Maronite, but also Armenian, Chaldean, Melkite and Syriac.

EGYPT

The Roman Catholic population in Egypt is considerably small as compared to the rest of the Christian population in Egypt. The Roman Catholic population in Egypt is said to have begun during the British control of Egypt, however many returned back to Europe after the 1952 Revolution in Egypt, which also caused the overthrow and exile of King Farouk of Egypt.

The majority of the christians in Egypt are members of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria. The population of Roman Catholics in Egypt makes up less than 1% of the total Egyptian population, which is roughly 83 million people.

OMAN

There are only 3,001 (according to a 2005 census) Catholics in Oman, mostly expatriates. They make up just 0.1% of the total population of 3,001,583. Oman forms part of the Apostolic Vicariate of Arabia.

Catholics in the Palestinian territories
There are over 80,000 Catholics in the areas referred to as the Palestinian territories, mostly in the agglomeration between Ramallah and Bethlehem, including the West Bank suburbs of Jerusalem. Adherents are mostly Latin Rite, but there is also a small Melkite Rite community. There are two Archbishops of Jerusalem for each jurisdiction respectively.

QATAR

There are very few Catholics in this overwhelmingly Islamic country - most are expatriate workers. Qatar forms part of the Apostolic Vicariate of Arabia. The local church has been granted permission to build an ecumenical church. The first Catholic church in Qatar, and also the first in an Arab Muslim emirate, will be dedicated in the capital Doha on March 14th, 2008.

SAUDI ARABIA

Pope Benedict XVI and HH King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques first ever meeting in 2006
Public worship of non-Islamic religions is forbidden in Saudi Arabia and Christians of all denominations have been subjected to persecution for public preaching. Possession of Bibles, in theory, is not a crime although possession of large quantities can carry severe penalties as it may be viewed as evidence of intent to convert others. However, there are some signs of more openness. Pope Benedict XVI and King Abdullah have begun negotiations on opening the first Catholic church in the kingdom.

YEMEN

There are only four thousand Catholics in the country, which forms part of the Apostolic Vicariate of Arabia which also includes other countries in the Arabian peninsula.

SYRIA

There are 368,000 Catholics in Syria, approximately 2% of the total population. The Catholics of Syria follow several different rites, including Armenian, Chaldean, Syrian, Maronite and Melkite in addition to the Roman rite and there are separate jurisdictions for the faithful of each rite.

JORDAN

Pope Benedict XVI with HH King Abdullah II and HH Queen Rania in 2009
There are approximately 70,000 Catholics in Jordan, representing just over 1% of the total population. The whole of the country forms a single Archeparchy. Jordanian Catholics belonging to the Greek Catholic churches use the Melkite Rite, these are referred to as "Catholiks" in Jordan, while those following the standard rites of the Roman Catholic Church are referred to as "Lateen".

Communion by hand is not permitted in any Catholic Church in Jordan, and the habit itself is completely alien to most Jordanians. Sometimes, however, at mass conducted for non-Jordanians, and specifically westerners in Jordan, communion by hand is permitted.

There are currently 32 Roman Catholic churches in Jordan (Greek and Melkite Catholic churches not included.)

IRAQ

There are over 300,000 Catholics in Iraq, just over 1% of the total population. The Catholics of Iraq follow several different rites, but most are members of the Chaldean Catholic Church. There are fifteen currently active dioceses and eparchies in Iraq.

Armenian Catholic Church
Armenian Catholic Archeparchy of Baghdad
Chaldean Catholic Church
Patriarchate of Babyon for the Chaldeans
Chaldean Catholic Archdiocese of Baghdad (currently united with the Patriarchate)
Chaldean Catholic Diocese of Alquoch
Chaldean Catholic Diocese of Amadiyah
Chaldean Catholic Diocese of Aqra
Chaldean Catholic Diocese of Sulaimaniya
Chaldean Catholic Diocese of Zaku
Chaldean Catholic Archeparchy of Arbil
Chaldean Catholic Archeparchy of Basra
Chaldean Catholic Archdiocese of Kerkuk
Chaldean Catholic Archeparchy of Mossul
Syrian Catholic Church
Syrian Catholic Archeparchy of Baghdad
Syrian Catholic Archeparchy of Mossul
Latin-Rite Catholic Church
Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baghdad

ISRAEL

There are just 100,000 Catholics in Israel, just over 1% of the total population. Most Israeli Catholics are members of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, but there is also a significant presence of the Maronite Church. In addition, the Latin Catholic Church hierarchy in Israel is headed by the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.

IRAN

There are just 13,603 Catholics in Iran - out of a total population of almost 70 million. They follow the Chaldean, Armenian and Latin Rites.

TURKEY

There are only around 35,000 Catholics, constituting 0.05% of the population, in this traditionally Islamic country. The faithful follow the Latin, Byzantine, Armenian and Chaldean Rite. The Catholic community was shocked when Father Andrea Santoro, an Italian missionary working in Turkey for 10 years, was shot twice at his church near the Black Sea. He had written a letter to the Pope asking him to visit Turkey. Pope Benedict XVI visited Turkey in November 2006. Relations had been rocky since Pope Benedict XVI had stated his opposition to Turkey joining the European Union. The Council of Catholic Bishops met with the Turkish prime minister in 2004 to discuss restrictions and difficulties such as property issues.

Structure

•Vicariate Apostolic of Anatolia - Latin Rite
•Archeparchy of Diarbekir (Amida) - Chaldean Rite
•Archeparchy of Istanbul - Armenian Rite
•Apostolic Exarchate of Istanbul - Byzantine Rite
•Vicariate Apostolic of Istanbul - Latin Rite
•Archdiocese of Izmir (Smirne) - Latin Rite

AFGHANISTAN

There are very few Catholics in this overwhelmingly Islamic country - just over 100 attend mass in its only chapel - and freedom of religion has been difficult to obtain in recent times, especially under the former Taliban regime. On 16 May 2002, Pope John Paul II established a mission sui iuris for Afghanistan with Father Giuseppe Moretti as its first superior. The only Catholic Church in the country is the chapel at the Italian embassy in Kabul. In 2004, the Missionaries of Charity arrived in Kabul to carry out humanitarian work.

History of the Catholic Church in Afghanistan

Legend from the apocryphal Gospel of Thomas and other ancient documents suggests that Saint Thomas preached in Bactria, which is today northern Afghanistan. The Nestorians planted Christianity in the area, and there have been 9 bishops and dioceses in the region, including Herat (424-1310), Farah (544-1057), Kandahar, and Balkh. This early establishment of the Church was overcome by Muslim invasions in the 7th century, though the territory was not substantially controlled by Muslims until the 9th and 10th centuries. In 1581 and 1582 respectively, the Jesuit and Spanisch Montesserat and the Portuguese Bento de Goes were warmly welcomed by the Islamic Emperor Akbar, but there was no lasting presence by the Jesuits in the country.

The 20th Century

Italy was the first country to recognize Afghanistan’s independence in 1919, and the Afghan government asked how it could thank Italy. Rome requested the right to build a chapel, which was then being requested by international technicians then living in the Afghan capital. A clause giving Italy the right to build a chapel within its embassy was included to Italian-Afghan treaty of 1921, and that same year the Barnabites arrived to start giving pastoral care. The actual pastoral work began in 1933 when the chapel international technicians had asked for was built. In the 1950s, the simple cement chapel was finished.

Pope John Paul II called for a "just solution" to the Soviet-Afghan war in the 1980s. From 1990 to 1994, Father Giuseppe Moretti was the only priest in Afghanistan, but was forced to leave in 1994 after being hit with shrapnel and had to return to Italy. After 1994, only the Little Sisters of Jesus were allowed to remain in Afghanistan, as they had been there since 1955 and their work was renowned. An official from the last pro-Communist government of Mohammad Najibullah went to see Fr Giuseppe Moretti in 1992 with a sketch for a small compound that would be guaranteed immunity. However, nothing came of it as the political situation in Afghanistan unravelled - the civil war escalated, the Taliban came to power and then lost it after the American invasion. Father Moretti again was forced to flee because of the invasion by the United States, but later returned. Following the attacks of September 11, Catholic Relief Services sent clothing, food and bedding to returning refugees and internally displaced persons. They also bought school supplies for children returning to school.

Post-Taliban

The first Mass in 9 years was celebrated on January 27, 2002 for members of the International Security Force and various members of foreign agencies. On May 16, 2002, a mission sui iuris was created for all of Afghanistan. There is only one functioning chapel in the country and it is the Italian Embassy's chapel. Projects of the new mission include a "Peace School" for 500 students that began construction in August 2003 and will be at "European standards". Three nuns also work with those who have mental disabilities in the capital city, teaching those with cerebral palsy how to go to the bathroom and how to eat on their own. The small community went through a period of crisis during the kidnapping on May 17, 2005 of Clementina Cantoni, a member of Care International, by four gunmen in Kabul as she walked to her car. Sisters from the Missionaries of Charity had their house blessed on May 9, 2006, and have already started taking in street children. There had been fears that their distinctive blue and white dress would make them stand out and be harassed by Islamists, but their order is generally respected. Jesuit Relief Services has also applied to join the growing number of religious orders in the country. Jesuit Refuge Services has recently opened a technical school in Herat for 500 students including 120 girls.
There have been efforts made to start inter-religious dialogue, with the Islamist head of the Afghan Supreme Court, Mullah Fazul Shinwari attended the inauguration of the mission and has expressed a desire to meet with the Pope.

The Catholic community in Afghanistan is mainly made of foreigners, especially aid workers, and no Afghans currently are part of the Church, mainly due to great social and legal pressure not to convert to non-Islamic religions. Some Afghans have converted while overseas, but keep it secret when they return. Despite this, the community has grown from only a few nuns to a full Sunday Mass of around 100.

Relations with the new democratic government of Afghanistan have been positive, such as President Hamid Karzai attending Pope John Paul II's funeral and congratulating Pope Benedict XVI on his election. The nuncio to Pakistan visited Afghanistan in 2005 and held a Mass in the Italian Embassy Chapel to an overflowing crowd, and Catholic officials hope that official diplomatic ties and a public Catholic church will be possible in the future.

PAKISTAN

Pope John Paul II visited Pakistan on February 16, 1981.

There are over one million Catholics in Pakistan, which represents less than 1% of the total population. There are 7 ecclesiastical units in Pakistan comprising 2 archdioceses and 4 dioceses, and one Apostolic Prefecture, all Latin Rite.

The Catholic Church in Pakistan is also active in education managing leading schools like Saint Patrick's High School, Karachi, health and other social aspects of daily life in addition to its spiritual work.

Joseph Cordeiro, Archbishop of Karachi, became the first (and thus far only) Pakistani Cardinal elevated to the position by Pope Paul VI on 5 Mar 1973.

Iglesia ni Cristo® Affirms the Doctrine of the HOLY TRINITY

Eduardo V. Manalo, Iglesia ni Cristo's Executive Minister, grandson of the founder Felix Manalo addressing his followers in its newly built INC temple in Araneta Avenue, Quezon City in the Philippines (Source: PASUGO Dec. 2009, Vol. 61, No. 12)
The Fundamental Beliefs of the Iglesia ni Cristo®, actually second in rank, vehemently denies the truth about the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity.
"The Father who created all things is the only true God. There is no Trinity, no three persons in one God."
That makes them uniquely different (though not original) from the entire Christian community of believers (if they're to be considered "Christians" for denying the Divinity of Christ even it's explicitly affirmed in the Holy Scriptures.) We should note in this juncture that members of the Iglesia ni Cristo® DO NOT call themselves "Christians" but "Iglesia" or "Iglesia ni Cristo."

In this video, they boldly proclaim how they're called "Iglesia ni Cristo" (not Christians) and confessed the truth of the Trinity by acknowledging the Three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit-- pledging worship to [One] God (which is a Catholic Teachings-- "There is only ONE God in Three Divine Persons they insist that Catholics have three gods).

Amen.

And DIYOS ang lagi nating sambahin!
Amen!
[Is there any difference if they'd say "Purihin ang DIOS (Ama), mabuhay sa pag-ibig ng DIOS (Anak), taglayin ang DIOS (Espitu Santo) na banal? It's makes more sense to me.]
Iglesia ni Cristo® Logo which has equivalent symbolism in Masonry (source: PinoyExchange)

In Christianity, the symbolism of triangle represents that of the Holy Trinity. The Iglesia ni Cristo® have that symbolism in their Official Logo. Bro. Quirino M. Sugon Jr. analysis on the subject notices that too (read HERE). If not for the Holy Trinity, then the remaining option in its symbolism is MASONRY which only confirms their group being a CULT disguising as a religion.

Then there's a Letter to PASUGO (INC®'s Official Magazine)and the Chief Editor's Response. Notice how the Iglesia ni Cristo's PASUGO Chief Editor emphasizes no distinction (using pronoun HE/HIM) between God (the Father), Jesus (Son) in its explanation implying God and Jesus are equal in essence. Read it for yourselves.  (No Iglesia dared to comment on this post).

Therefore in theory, the Iglesia ni Cristo® denies the Truth of the Trinity but elsewhere in its external proclamation of its beliefs they categorically affirm this basic Truth which one has to adhere so as to be worthy of the name "Christians".

For now, let them call themselves "Iglesia" while we proudly call ourselves CHRISTIANS belonging to the One, Holy, Catholic (Universal), Apostolic Church of Christ FOUNDED BY CHRIST in Jerusalem.  For who can suppress the Truth manifested in His Church? Not even the "gates of Hell can prevail" against His own founded Church (Matthew 16:16-18).  Not even the Iglesia ni Cristo®!

Indestructible Truth of Catholic Faith

From ScripturalCatholic
Article Source: Thanks to Fr. Abe's The Splendor of the Church, re-posted for the purpose of spreading the Indestructible Truth of Catholic faith against heretical groups, sects and cults disguising as Christ's "true" Church.

Ross Earl Hoffman sent a message to the members of The Lion's Training Ground: Catholic Apologetics.

Ross Earl Hoffman June 13, 2010 at 12:25am

Subject: This is Powerful!!!

This is a great post, I picked up from a super strong defender, named Lou...please all of you tuck this away, and keep it for defensive purposes. When you have someone, in our separated Christian camp...go after you, this is a great reply. Thought it was worthy of sharing....

Consider the following

Christ said... "I will never leave you nor forsake you" and promised that the Gates of Hell would not prevail against the Church.

If the truth that Jesus taught was not spread, was not taught for a period of time, then how can it be said the the Gates of Hell did not prevail.

That being the case, can you demonstrate that the Gospel, as you understand it, has been preached continuously since the time of Christ? If you cannot demonstrate a line of teachers who taught what you believe was taught by Christ, then the Gospel, as you understand it, was lost. If the Gospel of your Christ was lost, then your Christ is a loser. Who would want to believe in such a weak God? I certainly wouldn't.

But, you see, I can point to a succession of teachers, starting with the disciples of the apostles, who have taught Catholic Dogma. The Gospel as Catholics understand it has continuously been taught. That is the Christ who has remained with his Church.

When He said to the apostles, "I will send you the Holy Spirit and he will lead you into all truth", he wasn't saying that the Holy Spirit would lead each of them individually into all truth, but that he would lead them COLLECTIVELY into all truth.

As Paul says, the Church is the pillar of the Truth. He didn't say scripture - because scripture is, after all, a record, but the Church is a living being, the Body and Bride of Christ. And in rejecting the Church, you've cut yourself off from the living Body of Christ and substituted a delusion of spirit filling for the true Filling of the Spirit.

You can never be led into all truth because you reject the "Church, the pillar and foundation of the Truth".

"As Vincent of Lérins wrote in The Commonitory, "Moreover, in the Catholic Church itself, all possible care must be taken, that we hold that faith which has been believed everywhere, always, by all."

And, that is exactly what we believe. We can point to teachers at the end of the First Century and the beginning of the Second who were teaching the same doctrines we believe. You cannot do that, because the interpretation you preach is a novelty, something which was not "believed everywhere, always, by all".

One other thought. You answered "What is Truth". Aren't those exactly the same words Pilate said to Jesus?"

Ang Panlilinlang ni CONRAD J. OBLIGACION kaanib ng Iglesia ni Cristo®

Please allow me to write this particular article in Filipino. Once and for all, let’s weed out truth from lies perpetuated by CONRAD J. OBLIGACION, member of the cult Iglesia ni Cristo™ founded by Felix Manalo. (Click the label "Conrad J. Obligacion" to see update about this filthy member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo-1914.)

Conrad J. Obligacion is not an Ivatan and an anti-Catholic

Note: Si G. CONRAD J. OBLIGACION ay HINDI IVATAN at lalong HINDI SIYA KATOLIKO!

6.Felix Manalo bilang Anghel at Huling Sugo

In Defense of the Church”.

Abe, Bro. Beltran,OP, Bro. Cenon Bibe at Bro.

Psalm 10:3-4, 7-8, 14
Proudly the wicked harass the afflicted, who are caught in the devices the wicked have contrived. For the wicked man glories in his greed, and the covetous blasphemes, sets the LORD at naught.  The wicked man boasts, “He will not avenge it”; “There is no God,” sums up his thoughts. His mouth is full of cursing, guile and deceit; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity.  He lurks in ambush near the villages; in hiding he murders the innocent; his eyes spy upon the unfortunate.

A Blueprint For Finding The True Church...

Today is the feast of two of the greatest Pillars of the Universal Church of Christ-- Sts. Peter and Paul.  They were among the first Christians who defended the TRUTH of Christ of which this blog is dedicated for.  Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Sts. Peter and Paul, soon to be Blessed John Paul the Great, may Christ's truth in his own founded Church be the light of those still waling in the darkness of ignorance and lies by false angels and prophets prophesied .. and now they already have scattered their lies .

Below is a concise article against anyone claiming to be the "true church" such as the Iglesia ni Cristo™ cult in the Philippines founded by Felix Manalo and its sister cult the Mormonism.

Icon of Sts. Peter & Paul
Source: aculink
Follow this blueprint and it will lead you to the one true Church...

Truth is ONE...
There can be only one Truth...
Truth Excludes Error...

Jesus Christ said, "I AM THE WAY, AND THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE."
John 14:6
This must be true because He said it!

Jesus Christ said, "THOU ART PETER, AND UPON THIS ROCK I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH." Matthew 16:18
Notice that He did not say Churches.
This must be true because He said it.
"...Just as Christ is head of the Church..." Eph 5:23
"...and Him He gave as head over all the Church, which is indeed His body..." Eph 1:22-23
Therefore if Jesus Christ is the head of His Church, then His Church has to be the Church of Truth, just as He is Truth!

This is confirmed in 1Timothy 3:15, "...but in order that thou mayest know, if I am delayed, how to conduct thyself in the House of GOD, which is the Church of the living GOD, the pillar and mainstay of the Truth."

Now that we have the Church of Truth, headed by Truth Himself, then we have recourse to use that authority of Truth without trepidation.
"...AND IF HE REFUSE TO HEAR THEM, APPEAL TO THE CHURCH, BUT IF HE REFUSE TO HEAR EVEN THE CHURCH, LET HIM BE TO THEE AS THE HEATHEN AND PUBLICAN." Matthew 18:17
This must be true because He said it.

So Jesus Christ said those who refuse to hear His Church. let him be as a heathen (not Christian).

So now that we have the Church of Truth, how do we know it is still with us?
We know because Jesus Christ guaranteed it would be!
"...AND THE GATES OF HELL SHALL NOT PREVAIL AGAINST IT." Matthew 16:17
His Church will be defended from within and from without.

"...I AM WITH YOU ALL DAYS, EVEN UNTO THE CONSUMMATION OF THE WORLD." Matthew 28:20
He will be with His Church until the end of time.

"...AND I WILL ASK THE FATHER AND HE WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER ADVOCATE TO DWELL WITH YOU FOREVER, THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH WHOM THE WORLD CANNOT RECEIVE, BECAUSE IT NEITHER SEES HIM NOR KNOWS HIM." John 14:16-17
The Holy Spirit will be with His Church until the end of time.
These three verses are truth because He said them.

To sum it all up:
There is only one truth, and it is Jesus Christ.
He founded the Church of Truth and He will be with it and defend it forever.
The Holy Spirit will dwell in His Church of Truth forever.
His Church is still with us because He guaranteed it would be.

Now you can make your choice as to which Church is the Church which Jesus Christ founded. The choices are few.
It has to be the one He founded in about 33 A.D., so it has been around for almost 2000 years. Is it your Church?

Misunderstanding Iglesia ni Cristo™

Misunderstanding the Iglesia ni Cristo™, a cult disguising as a Christian "church" founded by an ex-Catholic, ex-Protestant Minister, convicted "rapist" Felix Y. Manalo who abused some women of his cult including his first wife, the term "Roman Catholic Church" as they use to call the Universal Church of Christ for them connotes two thing: that Catholics are Popish and Romanish. Below is an excellent un-biased  exposition of the term, its origin, terminology and history. At least they will not accuse Catholics of manipulating all historical facts being presented. Thanks to Wikipedia.

St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, Rome
Source: Wikipedia The term Roman Catholic first appeared in the English language in the 16th century to differentiate specific groups of Christians in communion with the Pope from others. It has continued to be widely used in the English language ever since, although its usage has changed over the centuries. It is now even used to distinguish different groups of Catholics who recognize the Pope, e.g., those who belong to the Western (i.e., Latin Rite) Church from those who belong to the Eastern Catholic Churches.

The church widely known as the Catholic Church consists of 23 autonomous churches — one "Western" and 22 "Eastern" — governed by two sets of Codes of Canon Law. To refer to all 23 autonomous Churches together, official Church documents often use the term "Catholic Church" or, less frequently, the term "Roman Catholic Church". The usage that makes the term "Roman Catholic" mean members of the Latin Rite or Western Church to the exclusion of those who belong to the Eastern Catholic Churches does not appear in recent documents of the Holy See.

In popular usage, "Catholic Church" is usually understood to mean the same as "Roman Catholic Church". In compound forms such as "Roman Catholic worship" the term is sometimes used to differentiate Western (Latin Rite) practices from Eastern. However, in itself the word "catholic" translates into English as "universal" or "pertaining to the whole", as opposed to "particular" or "related to a part". Being "catholic" is one of the Four Marks of the Church set out in the Nicene Creed, a statement of belief accepted by many churches, even if not in communion with the Pope.

Early Church

The word "church" comes from the Greek word "ecclesia", meaning "coming together". It was coined by the early Greek converts to Christianity in and around the Jerusalem area. The word "Catholic", meaning "universal", was first applied the Church by St. Ignatius of Antioch in his letter to the Smyrnaeans in 110. It was repeatedly used to describe the "universal" congregation of the believers of the pure Word of Christ in theological works such as St. Augustine of Hippo in his books Confessions in 394 and City of God in 410. In 1088, the Church split, the Western Church loyal to the Pope and the Eastern Church was Loyal to the Patriarch. St. Thomas Aquinas repeatedly used the word "Catholic" to describe the Church loyal to the Pope, or the bishop of Rome, as opposed to those loyal to the bishop of Constantinople, called the Patriarch.

16th and 17th centuries

The terms "Romish Catholic" and "Roman Catholic", along with "Popish Catholic", were brought into use in the English language chiefly by adherents of the Church of England, which saw itself as the Catholic Church in England, so that they were not willing to concede the term Catholic to their opponents without qualification.

The reign of Elizabeth I of England at the end of the 16th century was marked by conflicts in Ireland. Those opposed to English rule forged alliances with those against the Protestant reformation, making the term Roman Catholic almost synonymous with being Irish during that period, although that usage changed significantly over time.

Like the term Anglican, the term Roman Catholic came into widespread use in the English language only in the 17th century. The terms "Romish Catholic" and "Roman Catholic" were both in use in the 17th century and "Roman Catholic" was used in some official documents, such as those relating to the Spanish Match in the 1620s. There was, however, significant tension between Anglicans and Roman Catholics at the time (as reflected in the Test Act for public office). Even today, the Act of Settlement 1701 still prohibits Roman Catholics from becoming English monarchs.

18th and 19th centuries

The official and popular uses of the term Roman Catholic in the English language grew in the 18th century. Up to the reign of George III, Catholics in Britain who recognized the Pope as head of the Church had generally been designated in official documents as "Papists". In 1792, however, this phraseology was changed and in the Speech from the Throne, the term "Roman Catholic" was used.

By early 19th century, the term Roman Catholic had become well established in the English-speaking world. As the movement that led to Catholic Emancipation through the Catholic Relief Act of 1829 grew, many — though not all — Anglicans and Protestants generally began to accept that being a Roman Catholic was not synonymous with being disloyal to the British government. While believing that in the past the term Roman Catholic may have been synonymous with rebel, they held that it was by then as indicative of loyalty as membership in any other Christian denomination.[7] The situation had been very different two centuries before, when Pope Paul V forbade English members of his Church from taking an oath of allegiance to King James I, a prohibition that not all of them observed.[8]

Also in the 19th century, prominent Anglican theologians such as Palmer and Keble supported the Branch Theory, which viewed the universal Church as having three principal branches: Anglican, Roman and Eastern. The 1824 issue of The Christian Observer defined the term Roman Catholic as a member of the Roman Branch of the Church. By 1828, speeches in the English parliament routinely used the term Roman Catholic and referred to the "Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church".

In the United States, the use of the term Roman Catholic and indeed the number of Roman Catholics began to grow only in the early 19th century, given that in 1790 there were only 100 Roman Catholics in New York and some 30,000 in the whole United States, with 29 priests. As the number of Roman Catholics in the United States grew rapidly from 150,000 to 1.7 million between 1815 and 1850 — mostly by way of immigration from Ireland and Germany — the clergy followed the people to serve them, and Roman Catholic parishes were established. The terms "Roman Catholic" and "Holy Roman Catholic" thus gained widespread use in the United States in the 19th century, both in popular usage and within official documents. In 1866 President Andrew Johnson attended a meeting of the Council of the Roman Catholic Church.

20th century

American Catholics, who by the year 1900 were 12 million people and had a predominantly Irish clergy, objected to what they considered the reproachful terms Popish and Romish and preferred the term Roman Catholic.

In the early 20th century, the use of the term Roman Catholic continued to spread within the United States and Canada, to refer to individuals, parishes and their schools. For instance, the 1915 Report of the Commissioner of Education of the United States had a specific section for "Roman Catholic Parish Schools". By 1918, legal proceedings in state supreme courts (from Delaware to Minnesota) and laws passed in the State of New York used the term "Roman Catholic parish".

By the middle of the 20th century the use of the term Roman Catholic was widely established in the United States and a 1957 survey by the United States Census Bureau determined that 25% of the US population applied the term Roman Catholic to themselves.

Current usage

The term Roman Catholic is generally used on its own to refer to individuals, and in compound forms to refer to worship, parishes, festivals, etc. Its usage has varied, depending on circumstances. It is sometimes identified with one or other of the terms "Catholic", "Western Catholic" (equivalent to "Latin Catholic"), and "Roman-Rite Catholic".

"Roman Catholic" and "Western or Latin Catholic"

The term "Roman Catholic" is also used to refer to Western (i.e. Latin) Catholics, excluding Eastern Catholics. An example is the statement in the book When other Christians become Catholic:

"...the individual becomes Eastern Catholic, not Roman Catholic".

Similarly the Catholic Faith Handbook for Youth states that

"...not all Catholics are Roman Catholics and there are other Catholic Churches",

using the term "Roman Catholic" to refer to Western Church members alone. The same distinction is made by writers in the Eastern Catholic Churches. That this view is not the only one, especially perhaps at popular level, is shown by the use of terms such as "Byzantine Roman Catholic" and "Maronite Roman Catholic" as self-identification by individuals or as the name of a church building. Additionally, in other languages, the usage varies significantly.

Although the Catholic Church has Western and Eastern branches, many, even Catholics, are unaware, or only dimly aware of this fact, partly because, outside the Middle East, Eastern Catholics are a small fraction of the total number of Catholics.

"Roman Catholic" and "Roman-Rite Catholic"

When referring to worship, the term Roman Catholic is at times used to refer to the "Roman Rite", which is not a church but a form of liturgy. The Roman Rite is distinct from the liturgies of the Eastern Catholic Churches and also from other Western liturgical rites such as the Ambrosian Rite, which have a much smaller following than the Roman Rite.

An example of this usage is provided in the book Roman Catholic Worship: Trent to today states:

"We use the term Roman Catholic Worship throughout to make it clear that we are not covering all forms of Catholic worship. There are a number of Eastern Rite churches that can justly claim the title Catholic, but many of the statements we make do not apply to them at all.".

ompared to the Roman Rite, the other Western liturgical rites have little following. Hence, the Vatican department that deals with forms of worship (including music) in the Western Church often issues documents that deal only with the Roman Rite. Any involvement by the Holy See in questions of Eastern liturgies is handled by a different department.

Some of the writers who draw a contrast between "Roman Catholics" and "Eastern Catholics" may perhaps be distinguishing Eastern Catholics not from Latin or Western Catholics in general, but only from those (the majority of Latin Catholics) who use the Roman liturgical rite. Adrian Fortescue explicitly made this distinction, saying that, just as "Armenian Catholic" is used to mean a Catholic who uses the Armenian rite, "Roman Catholic" could be used to mean a Catholic who uses the Roman Rite. In this sense, he said, an Ambrosian Catholic, though a member of the Latin or Western Church, is not a "Roman" Catholic. He admitted, however, that this usage is uncommon.

Parishes and dioceses

When the term "Roman Catholic" is used as part of the name of a parish it usually indicates that it is a Western parish that follows the Roman Rite in its liturgy, rather than, for instance, the less common Ambrosian Rite, e.g. St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, Oyster Bay, New York. The shorter term "Catholic" may also appear in parish names and "Roman Catholic" sometimes even appears in the compound name of Eastern Catholic parishes, e.g. St. Mary's Byzantine Roman Catholic Church.

All Catholic parishes are part of an ecclesiastical jurisdiction, usually a diocese (called an eparchy in the canon law of the Eastern Catholic Churches). These jurisdictions are usually grouped in ecclesiastical provinces, headed by a metropolitan archdiocese. All dioceses and similar jurisdictions — Eastern and Western — come under the authority of the Pope. The term "Roman Catholic archdiocese" is formally used to refer to both Western and Eastern Churches. As of January 2009, there were 630 Roman Catholic archdioceses, Western and Eastern.

Name of the Church

The terms "Catholic Church" and "Roman Catholic Church" are names for the entire church that describes itself as "governed by the successor of Saint Peter and by the bishops in communion with him". In its formal documents and pronouncements the church most often refers to itself as the Catholic Church or simply the Church. In its relations with other churches, it frequently uses the name "Roman Catholic Church", which it uses internally also, though less frequently. Some writers such as Kenneth Whitehead and Patrick Madrid argue that the only proper name for the Church is "the Catholic Church".

Some Catholic writers such as Kenneth Whitehead argue that the proper name of the Church is the "Catholic Church" rather than the "Roman Catholic Church". Kenneth Whitehead and Patrick Madrid argue that the term "Roman Catholic" has Anglican origins and that the term is used to leave open the possibility that there are other "Catholic" churches.

The name "Roman Catholic Church" is occasionally used by popes, bishops, other clergy and laity, who do not see it as opprobrious or having the suggested overtone. The use of "Roman", "Holy" and "Apostolic" are accepted by the Church as descriptive names. Some American states and the country of England require the Church to use the legal name "Roman Catholic Church".[citation needed] At the time of the 16th-century Reformation, the Church itself "claimed the word catholic as its title over Protestant or Reformed churches". It believes that it is the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.

Throughout the years, in various instances, official Church documents have used both the terms "Catholic Church" and "Roman Catholic Church" to refer to the worldwide Church as a whole, including Eastern Catholics, as when Pope Pius XII taught in Humani Generis that "the Mystical Body of Christ and the Roman Catholic Church are one and the same thing". However, some Easterners, though in communion with the Bishop of Rome, apply the adjective "Roman" to the Latin or Western Church alone. Representatives of the Catholic Church are at times required to use the term "Roman Catholic Church" in certain dialogues, especially in ecumenical milieu, since some Protestants consider themselves authentic instances of Catholic faith.

In the 21st century, the three terms Catholic Church, Roman Catholic Church and the Holy Roman Catholic Church continue to appear in various books and publications, and scholarly debates on the proper form of reference to the Catholic Church within specific contexts continue. For instance, the Catechism of the Catholic Church does not contain the term "Roman Catholic Church", referring to the Church only by names such as "Catholic Church" (as in its title), while the Advanced Catechism Of Catholic Faith And Practice states that the term Roman is used within the name of the Church to emphasize that the center of unity of the Church is the Roman See.[

Branch Theory

There is controversy about the name "Roman Catholic Church" because of its use by some outside the Church to suggest that the Church in Rome is only one part of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. This argument is linked especially with the Anglican Branch Theory, (i.e., that the Church in communion with the Pope is only one branch of a divided Catholic Church, of which the Eastern Orthodox Church and Anglicanism are the other two branches).

In 1864, the Holy Office rejected the Branch Theory, affirming in a letter written to the English Bishops that the Roman Church is not just a part of the Catholic Church and stating that "there is no other Catholic Church except that which is built on the one man, Peter ...." In 1870, English bishops attending the First Vatican Council raised objections to the expression "Holy Roman Catholic Church" which appeared in the schema (the draft) of the Council's Dogmatic Constitution on the Catholic Faith. These bishops proposed that the word "Roman" be omitted out of concern that use of the term "Roman Catholic" would lend support to proponents of the Branch Theory. While the Council overwhelmingly rejected this proposal, the text was finally modified to read "The Holy Catholic Apostolic and Roman Church".

Second Vatican Council

The Second Vatican Council did not use the term "Roman Catholic Church", and in one important passage replaced it with an equivalent phrase, "the Catholic Church, which is governed by the successor of Peter and by the bishops in union with that successor", while also giving in a footnote a reference to two earlier documents in which the word "Roman" was used explicitly.

The Second Vatican Council's dogmatic constitution Lumen gentium declares that the phrase "Roman Church" has been applied in the Tridentine Profession of Faith to the Church itself, the Church "governed by the successor of Saint Peter and by the bishops in communion with him". Even as far back as 1208 the adjective "Roman" was applied to the Church "outside which we believe that no one is saved".

Catechism of the Catholic Church

While the phrase "Roman Catholic Church" does not appear in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Advanced Catechism of Catholic Faith and Practice states that the term "Roman" is used within the name of the Church to emphasize that the centre of unity of the Church is the Roman See.

View of Eastern Catholics

Some Eastern-rite Catholics reject the description of themselves as "Roman", even though they're a part of the Catholic Church. Others are proud to call themselves Roman Catholics,[69] and "Roman Catholic" sometimes even appears in the compound name of Eastern Catholic parish churches, e.g. St. Mary's Byzantine Roman Catholic Church.
