"The Christianity of history is not Protestantism. If ever there were a safe truth it is this, and Protestantism has ever felt it so; to be deep in history is to cease to be a Protestant." (-John Henry Newman, An Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine).

"Where the bishop is, there let the people gather; just as where ever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church". -St. Ignatius of Antioch (ca 110 AD)a martyr later thrown to the lions, wrote to a church in Asia Minor. Antioch was also where the term "Christian" was first used.

“But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15

"This is the sole Church of Christ, which in the Creed we profess to be one, holy, catholic and apostolic." -CCC 811

Sunday Dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity

(Photo Credit: JonathanCorner.com): Today is the Solemnity of the Feast of the Blessed Trinity or better known as the "Trinity Sunday" in the Catholic Church.

The Blessed Trinity is not what non-Catholics are thinking about. In the Holy Qu'ran of the Muslims the Trinity was perceived to be the Father, Jesus and his Mother Mary which in the development of the doctrine, Mary remained to be taught as the Blessed Virgin Mary who, despite her greatness in the sight of God, blameless and pure, she remained the "Mother of the Lord" not God or god, but the "Blessed of all women."

Within Christianity, this doctrine is one of the most misunderstood doctrine of the Catholic Church. In the early centuries, heresies were commited by Arius and Nestorius' because of their erroneous understanding of the doctrine which separated them from the whole Catholic Church to which both of them and their teachings were condemned at the Council of Nicea in 325 A. D. and Third Ecumenical Council in Ephesus in 431 A.D. respectively.

Today, the same error was revived by protestant sects and quasi "christian" cults such as Jehovah's Witnesses founded by Charles Taze Russel in 1870's, Mormonism founded by Joseph Smith Jr. in 1830 who considered himself as the Last Prophet, and the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ) in the Philippines which was founded by Felix Manalo Ysagun (which he changed to Felix Ysagun Manalo in 1914) who considered himself as the Last Messenger or angel. But of course all of their arguments were recycled from Arius and Nestorius.

No matter how these cults and sects points to the Bible about the possible inexplicit mention of the word "Trinity" but the truth remains that in the same Bible itself, God was revealed in three Divine Persons (see Wikipedia).

"May the Holy Triune God be in our hearts and in the hearts of all." - St. Arnold Janssen, SVD
