Pope UK Visit: First Ever State Visit by a Pope

London BBC Radio 4 - Pope Benedict XVI will visit England and Scotland from 16-19 September 2010. This is the first visit by a Pontiff in 28 years, and the first ever State visit by a Pope.

Radio 4 has a series of special programmes to mark the visit.

Cardinal John Newman Pope Benedict XVI was elected the 264th successor of St Peter on 19 April 2005. His Holiness is only the second non-Italian pope since 1522 - the other being his predecessor Pope John Paul II. To date, Pope Benedict has visited 15 countries.
