"The Christianity of history is not Protestantism. If ever there were a safe truth it is this, and Protestantism has ever felt it so; to be deep in history is to cease to be a Protestant." (-John Henry Newman, An Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine).

"Where the bishop is, there let the people gather; just as where ever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church". -St. Ignatius of Antioch (ca 110 AD)a martyr later thrown to the lions, wrote to a church in Asia Minor. Antioch was also where the term "Christian" was first used.

“But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15

"This is the sole Church of Christ, which in the Creed we profess to be one, holy, catholic and apostolic." -CCC 811

Valentine’s Day, also called St. Valentine’s Day, holiday (February 14) when lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts. Given their similarities, it has been suggested that the holiday has origins in the Roman festival of Lupercalia, held in mid-February. The festival, which celebrated the coming of spring, included fertility rites and the pairing off of women with men by lottery. At the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I forbid the celebration of Lupercalia and is sometimes attributed with replacing it with St. Valentine’s Day, but the true origin of the holiday is vague at best.

Emperor Claudius II had banned marriage because he thought married men were bad soldiers. Valentine felt this was unfair, so he broke the rules and arranged marriages in secret. When Claudius found out, Valentine was thrown in jail and sentenced to death. -BBC

Galit sa Maling Unawa ang Iglesia ni Manalo ~ ang Iglesia Ni Cristo® 1914

Source: https://iglesianicristoibongmandirigma.wordpress.com/2019/01/24/valentines-day-another-pagan-catholic-feast/

  • Pinapatay ni Emperor Claudius Gothicus (214 - 270 A.D.) si San Balentin noong Pebrero 14, 269 A.D.

The Feast of Mary's Immaculate Conception Explained!

On December 8, 1854 Pope Pius IX defined the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception as dogma that Mary of Nazareth was conceived without original sin. By this dogma, the Catholic Church confesses: “The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin.” (CCC #491-492, 508)

A brief overview of the history and significance of the feast of the Immaculate Conception which is celebrated during Advent on Dec. 8th throughout the whole Church. The video is not-for-profit, and is intended for religious teaching, scholarship, and research purposes only (Fair Use Doctrine: Title 17, para. 107).

Addendum: "Theotokos" literally means God bearer.

The Feast of Assumption

The Assumption of Mary into Heaven (often shortened to the Assumption) is, according to the beliefs of the Catholic Church, Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy, as well as parts of Anglicanism, the bodily taking up of the Virgin Mary into Heaven at the end of her earthly life.

The Catholic Church teaches as dogma that the Virgin Mary "having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory". This doctrine was dogmatically defined by Pope Pius XII on 1 November 1950, in the apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus by exercising papal infallibility. While the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church believe in the Dormition of the Theotokos (“the Falling Asleep of the Mother of God”),  whether Mary had a physical death has not been dogmatically defined. In Munificentissimus Deus (item 39) Pope Pius XII pointed to the Book of Genesis (3:15) as scriptural support for the dogma in terms of Mary's victory over sin and death through her intimate association with “the new Adam” (Christ) as also reflected in 1 Corinthians 15:54: "then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory".

The New Testament contains no explicit narrative about the death or Dormition, nor of the Assumption of Mary, but several scriptural passages have been theologically interpreted to describe the ultimate fate in this and the afterworld of the Mother of Jesus (see below).

In the churches that observe it, the Assumption is a major feast day, commonly celebrated on 15 August. In many countries, the feast is also marked as a Holy Day of Obligation in the Roman Catholic Church. [Wikipedia]

British Catholics take to the streets for Corpus Christi processions

A passerby genuflects as the Corpus Christi procession passes through London (Mazur/catholicnews.org.uk)
Bishops took part in processions in London, Oxford, Sheffield and South Wales

Churches around Britain held Blessed Sacrament processions yesterday for the transferred Feast of Corpus Christi.

In London, a procession was led by Archbishop Mennini, the apostolic nuncio. It started at Our Lady of the Assumption, Warwick Street and ended at St James’s, Spanish Place.

This is the third consecutive year that the procession has taken place. Last year, Cardinal Vincent Nichols was present.

An international procession took place from St Patrick’s, Soho, to St Giles-in-the-fields where Benediction was given. Along the way, volunteers handed out leaflets explaining to passers-by what the procession was about.

Bishop Ralph Heskett of of Hallam led the procession from St Marie’s Cathedral, Sheffield, while Bishop-Elect Paul Mason, Auxiliary Bishop of Southwark, led a procession from St John the Baptist, Westerham.

A procession also took place at Neath Abbey in South Wales, led by Bishop Tom Burns of Menevia.

In Oxford, a Pontifical High Mass for Corpus Christi, celebrated by Bishop Robert Byrne, was followed by a procession through the streets. The procession stopped at Blackfriars, where Fr Robert Ombres OP preached a sermon, and finished at the Catholic Chaplaincy.

In Ramsgate, a procession attracted more than 350 people. Fr Marcus Holden, the parish priest of Ramsgate and Minster, said the turnout was “amazing”. He tweeted: “a great witness and act of loving devotion. Deo Gratias!”

SOLEMNITY SUNDAY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY!

A traditional diagram that explains in simple terms about the Blessed Trinity
Islam's mistaken view on Trinity say that we, Catholics invented the Holy Trinity by making Allah (God), Isa (Jesus) and Mariam (Mary /Mariam) as equal with that ONE GODHEAD (see Wikipedia).

The doctrine of the Holy Trinity makes Christianity UNIQUE among all the religions in the world. It kept Christianity INTACT and DIVIDED. And it produced various dissenting groups among the Protestants and different dissenting groups keep on multiplying but not populating in numbers.

What is the HOLY TRINITY? Where is it in the Bible? And why it is THE GOD we know and we worship?

Here is from Catholic Education Resource Center written by a Jesuit priest, Rev. Fr. John a. Hardon, S.J.

The mystery of the Holy Trinity is the most fundamental of our faith. On it everything else depends and from it everything else derives. Hence the Churchs constant concern to safeguard the revealed truth that God is One in nature and Three in Persons.

In order to do some justice to this sublime subject, we shall look only briefly at the heretical positions that at various periods of the Church's history challenged the revealed Trinitarian faith. Our principal intention is to see in sequence the development of the doctrine, with emphasis on how the Church's authority has contributed to the progress in understanding the plurality of persons in the one true God.

There is also great value in seeing some of the implications of the doctrine for our personal and social lives, since the mystery was most extensively revealed by Christ during the same discourse at the Last Supper when He taught us the "New Commandment" by which we are to love one another as He has been loving us.

Trinitarian Heresies

There is a certain logic in the adversative positions assumed by those who called into question one or another aspect of the Trinity. Not surprisingly the human mind has wrestled with what God revealed about Himself in His inner Trinitarian existence. And depending on the willingness to recognize its limitations, the intellect has been enlightened by what God says about His mysterious being.

Thus we have, on the one hand, such extensive treatises as St. Augustine's De Trinitate that show how perfectly compatible is the mystery of the Triune God with the deepest reaches of human intelligence. Indeed, the better the Trinity is understood, the more the human mind expands its horizons and the better it understands the world that the Trinity has created.

At the same time, we have the spectacle of another phenomenon. Minds that are not fully docile to the faith have, in greater or less measure, resisted the unquestioning acceptance of the Trinity. From apostolic times to the present, they have struggled with themselves and in their misguided effort to "explain" the mystery have only rationalized their own ideas of what the mystery should be.

For the sake of convenience, we can capsulize the leading anti-Trinitarian teachings of Christian history. Although given here somewhat chronologically, they are all very current because one or another, or a combination of several, may be found in contemporary writings in nominally Christian sources. There is no such thing as an antiquated doctrinal error, as correspondingly there is no such thing as an entirely new heresy. Error has its own remarkable consistency.

Monarchianism

By the end of the first century, certain Judaizing Christians lapsed into a pre-Christian notion of God. According to them God is simply unipersonal. Such were the Corinthians and the Ebionites.

Within the next hundred years these theories were systemized into what has since become known as Monarchianism, i.e., monos = one + archein = to rule, which postulates only one person in God. In practice, however, Monarchianism affected certain positions regarding the nature and person of Christ; and these were the ones that finally had to be countered by the Church's Magisterium.

FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI (Body of Christ), Pope Honors Persecuted Christians

Source: Stand with the Persecuted Church
Christian Persecution is REAL. Since its birth in the First Century to the Third Millennium it's still happening.  Endless report on violence and persecution against Christians from Muslim Extremists and Muslim states in the Middle East is one of the gravest (read Aid to the Church in Need). Muslims are the main source of persecution followed by Communist countries like China, N. Korea, Cuba and Vietnam.  Secular states also persecute Christians in various ways like banning of Crosses in public areas. Removing Christian symbols in public schools, suing everyone who displays Christian symbols in the name of SECULARISM. Persecution also comes from fellow Christians who are NOT CATHOLICS such as various Protestant churches, sects, cults, and even non-Christian such as Hindus in India.  Some Born-Again protestant non-denominational groups and the notorious Iglesia Ni Cristo® founded by an apostate Felix Manalo in 1914 (now being exposed of deep seated corruption by an anonymous Minister at Iglesia Ni Cristo Silent No More!) and Ang Dating Daan® founded by Eliseo Soriano who is a fugitive in Brazil for rape.
Celebrating Corpus Christi feast, pope honors persecuted Christians

By Cindy Wooden Catholic News Service

ROME (CNS) — The Eucharist is the seal of God’s covenant, uniting Christians and giving them the strength to bring God’s love to others, even when faith carries a high price, Pope Francis said.

Celebrating the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ with an evening Mass outside Rome’s Basilica of St. John Lateran June 4, Pope Francis said the church and its members will never cease being in awe of the Eucharist.

As the sun began to set, the Mass was followed by a traditional Corpus Christi procession from St. John Lateran to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, one mile away.

Pope Francis asked the faithful as they walked through the city with the Eucharist to remember “our many brothers and sisters who do not have the freedom to express their faith in the Lord Jesus.”

“Let us be united with them; let us sing with them, praise with them, adore with them,” he said. “And, in our hearts, let us venerate those brothers and sisters who were asked to sacrifice their lives out of fidelity to Christ. May their blood, united to the Lord’s, be a pledge of peace and reconciliation for the whole world.”

The Eucharist, he said, “sanctifies us, purifies us and unites us in a marvelous communion with God. In that way we learn that the Eucharist is not a prize for the good, but strength for the weak; for sinners it is pardon; it is the viaticum that helps us move forward, to walk.”

In the main part of his homily, Pope Francis quoted from one of the texts in the Liturgy of the Hours for the feast day: “Eat this sacred food, so that your bond of unity with Christ may never be broken. Drink this sacred blood, the price he paid for you, so that you may never lose heart because of your sinfulness.”

Division and losing heart are “a danger, a threat,” he said, but the gift of Christ’s presence in his body and blood give Christians the strength to resist them.

“We scatter when we are not docile to the Lord’s word, when we do not live in brotherhood, when we compete to occupy the best places — being climbers, you know — when we do not find the courage to give a witness of charity, when we are unable to offer hope,” he said.

But the Eucharist is “the bond of communion” and the constant sign of the love of Christ who died on the cross “so that we would remain united,” he said.

“Christ, present among us under the sign of bread and wine, demands that power of love overcome every fracture and, at the same time, become communion with the poor, support for the weak and fraternal concern for those who struggle to bear the weight of daily life and are in danger of losing their faith,” Pope Francis said.

Christians lose heart when they lose sight of their dignity as Christians, he said, and instead worship “the idolatries of our time: appearances, consumption and placing the ‘I’ at the center of everything.”

Being competitive, thinking that arrogance is a charming personal quality or that you are never wrong are other symptoms, the pope said. “All of this devalues us, makes us mediocre, tepid, insipid Christians, pagans.”

As Christians, he said, we will always be “poor sinners, but the blood of Christ will free us from our sins and restore our dignity.”

“Not by our own merits and with sincere humility, we can bring our brothers and sisters the love of our lord and savior,” Pope Francis said. “We will be his eyes searching out Zacchaeus and Mary Magdalene; we will be his hands that help those sick in body and spirit; we will be his heart that loves those in need of mercy, reconciliation and understanding.”

As he did last year, Pope Francis celebrated the Mass and then rode in a car to St. Mary Major to meet the Corpus Christi procession as it arrived and to officiate at the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

The Eucharist had been carried on a flatbed truck with two deacons kneeling alongside it. Thousands of Catholics — members of confraternities, dozens of cardinals and bishops, plus hundreds of sisters and priests — accompanied the truck, carrying candles as darkness fell.

The truck bore the Vatican license plate “SCV 1,” the special plate usually reserved for the pope.

Christmas (Pasko) according to an Iglesia ni Cristo member

In PRINCIPLE, Iglesia ni Cristo SHOULD NOT be celebrating Christmas or Pasko in Tagalog according to their teachings. But in PRACTICE they do. They enjoyed very much receiving Christmas bonuses, they eagerly accept Christmas gifts, they excitedly exchange Christmas cards, enthusiastically attend Christmas parties, their children do caroling with Catholic children, and they DEFINITELY look forward for another enjoying CHRISTMAS BREAKS with much EAGERNESS.

But this particular comment from Plaridel plainly made me laugh so hard that I almost fell down from where I was seated. Though I find it amazingly unusual thing to display such enormous stupidity, yet it's exceedingly funny. Mr. Plaridel's shameless display of "lack of common sense" is very appalling. He said @ this POST:
The term Pasko does not translate specifically to Christmas. the term pasko is from the Hebrew word "pascha" which means "Passover" which is a derivative for "pasko". So the INC does have "Pasko" but not christmas, pasko means Passover. We do celebrate "pasko" as passover.
Wow, a "Johny-came-lately" 1914 Iglesia ni Cristo sabotaging a TERM which was used by Catholics for centuries now and was celebrated for centuries now?

Mr. Plaridel, PASKO Is a Catholic celebration so we ought to know it by heart. Have you thought of that? Oh, I don't think  you have.

Christmas and the Iglesia ni Cristo

You might be asking, Do Iglesia ni Cristo members celebrate Christmas? Well, base on my experience, they say they don't but they demand Christmas bonuses from their companies, they visit friends and join Christmas parties, they greet one another Merry Christmas and they even enjoy a Christmas holiday break. And more appalling is what you see below (from Manila Balita):

Photos Taken from Facebook "IGLESIA NI MANALO CHRISTMAS CONTRADICTION"

Here's what we got from their Official Magaine PASUGO about Christmas!

ANG PALAGAY NG IGLESIA NI CRISTO SA PASKO taken from Ang Katotohanan Tungkol sa INK-1914 ni Julian Pinzon

1-PASUGO Disyembre 1956, p. 34: (sinulat ni Benjamin T. Villalba)
“It strikes people as odd that members of the Church of Christ (Iglesia ni Cristo) do not celebrate Christmas.

2-PASUGO Disyembre 1957, p. 28: (sinulat ni Emeliano I. Agustin) (Patula)
“Ang diwa ng Pasko ay kapayapaan;
Nang mundong naglunoy sa lusak ng Buhay;
Mabuting balita sa kinalulugdan;

At Christmas, Pope urges end to Mideast Christians' pain

File Photo: New York Times
By AFP
VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI urged an end Saturday to conflict in the Middle East and support for the region's Christians, saying those living in Iraq needed comfort from their pain after deadly attacks.

In his traditional Christmas Day address delivered at the Vatican, the pope also called for human rights to be respected in Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as for an end to the turmoil in African troublespots.

And there was a plea for reconciliation on the Korean peninsula along with a rebuke for the Communist rulers in Beijing over what he said were the limitations placed on Christians living on the Chinese mainland.

Fears for the safety of the Middle East's dwindling numbers of Christians were heightened in late October when Islamist militants laid siege to a church in Baghdad, leaving 44 worshippers and two priests dead.

An Al-Qaeda affiliate group has also issued death threats to Iraqi Christians in recent days, warning them against celebrating Christmas.

Crowds pack Bethlehem to hear message of peace

BETHLEHEM, Palestinian Territories (AFP) – The Middle East's senior Catholic cleric called for peace and reconciliation in a traditional Christmas Eve midnight mass before thousands in the birthplace of Jesus Christ.

"During this Christmas season, may the sound of the bells of our churches drown the noise of weapons in our wounded Middle East," Latin Patriarch Fuad Twal told an audience that included Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.

Pilgrims from around the world gathered in St. Catherine's Church on Bethlehem's Manger Square to hear the traditional address in the city where Christians believe Jesus Christ was born.

As peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians remain stalled, Twal offered a vision of a better, more peaceful future.

Happy Feast Day (Immaculate Conception) to all Catholics!

Gn 3:9-15, 20; Lk 1:26-38) When Mary received a shocking invitation to mother the Messiah, she wisely inquired how a virgin could bear a child. In faith, she accepted the assurance that nothing is impossible with God. Conceived without sin, Mary, like the Son of God himself, always said yes to God.

Iraq: Dozens dead following Muslim standoff at Catholic church

Just a week ago, the Catholic Church held its Middle East Synod at the Vatican. Among the greatest threat for Christians are "Muslim Extremists" who want all Christians to be out of the Middle East.

We need peaceful Muslims to CONDEMN this BARBARIC acts done in the name of Islam by the few. We condemn this attrocities but we stand with those suffering Christians in the Middle East that their own blood become seed for Evangelization just as our saint-martyrs did.

Today, as we Catholics are celebrating the ALL SAINTS DAY, let us remember them, those who have sacrificed their lives for the sake of Christ and ask them to pray for us who are still journeying to salvation.

And those who died who still need the grace of God, may all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen!
