"The Christianity of history is not Protestantism. If ever there were a safe truth it is this, and Protestantism has ever felt it so; to be deep in history is to cease to be a Protestant." (-John Henry Newman, An Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine).

"Where the bishop is, there let the people gather; just as where ever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church". -St. Ignatius of Antioch (ca 110 AD)a martyr later thrown to the lions, wrote to a church in Asia Minor. Antioch was also where the term "Christian" was first used.

“But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15

"This is the sole Church of Christ, which in the Creed we profess to be one, holy, catholic and apostolic." -CCC 811

The Manila Times

HAPPY 105TH FOUNDING YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO®

JULY 27: (FACT) Today in Philippine History, Felix Manalo founded Iglesia ni Cristo in Punta Sta. Ana, Manila

On July 27, 1914, Brother Felix Manalo founded Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), largest homegrown Christian Church in the Philippines, in Punta, Sta. Ana, Manila.

Brother Manalo, whom followers and members recognized as God’s messenger, professed to the reestablishment of the original church founded by Jesus and claimed that the original church was apostatized.

The INC began with a handful of followers with Manalo as its head minister propagated his message within his local area, subsequently growing its members and converting members of other religions.

(First Iglesia Ni Cristo Congregation in Punta, Sta. Ana, Manila)
In 1924, the INC had about 3,000 to 5,000 members in 43 or 45 congregations in Manila and six nearby provinces. By 1936, the INC had 85,000 members. This figure grew to 200,000 by 1954.

A Cebu congregation was built in 1937, the first to be established outside of Luzon, and the first in the Visayas.

The first mission to Mindanao was commissioned in 1946.

Its first concrete chapel was built in Sampaloc, Manila in 1948.

As Manalo's health began to fail in the 1950s, his son, Eraño Manalo started to take leadership of the church. Felix Manalo died on April 12, 1963.

The first overseas INC mission was sent in 1968 on its 54th anniversary and in 1973, the church established a congregation in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 27, and in San Francisco, California.

The Ministerial Institute of Development, currently the New Era University College of Evangelical Ministry, was founded in 1974 in Quiapo, Manila. It moved to its current location in Quezon City in 1978.

In 1995, New Era University had 4,500 students and five extension schools in Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga and Rizal.

In 1971, the INC Central Office building was built in Quezon City. Fifteen years later, the Central Temple was added in the complex. The Tabernacle, a tent-like multipurpose building which can accommodate up to 4,000 persons, was finished in 1989. The complex also includes the New Era University, a higher-education institution run by the INC.

Eraño Manalo died on August 31, 2009. His son, Eduardo V. Manalo, succeeded him as executive minister upon his death.

According to the 2000 census of the Philippine National Statistics Office, 2.3 percent of the population in the Philippines was affiliated with the Iglesia ni Cristo.

Membership in the INC is conferred through baptism. People who wish to be baptized in the INC must first submit to a formal process taking at least six months.

Once someone officially registers with their locale, the person is given the status of Bible Student, as they are called within the Iglesia ni Cristo and taught the 25 lessons concerning fundamental beliefs of the INC.

Thursday and Sunday are its days of worship.

On July 27, 2009, President Gloria Arroyo declared this day of every year as the “Iglesia ni Cristo Day.”

The declaration was in keeping with Republic Act 9645, signed into law by the President on June 12, 2009, which designated the said day as a special working holiday in recognition of the founding anniversary of the INC in the Philippines.

[Acts 9:31]

Monday, December 22, 2014

Foreword

The Iglesia ni Cristo will celebrate its 100th foundation anniversary on July 27, 2014. As fellow citizens of our country we join the members of the INC in remembering their history where we find virtue and commitment to God.

Anticipating the questions of the Catholic faithful that will arise on the occasion of this anniversary regarding the religious beliefs of the Iglesia ni Cristo, the present Primer was approved by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) as a guide for catechesis.

The respect we give to the religious beliefs of others should motivate us to get to understand those beliefs deeply, as this is demanded by the requirements of sincere dialogue. Differences in what we believe in do not make us distant from those who hold those beliefs, because as J. Maritain put it, among ideas contradictions are inevitable, but not among persons.

We cannot close our eyes to the fact that there are serious and deep differences between the Christian Faith and the doctrines of the Iglesia ni Cristo. Thus, this Primer presents in Part One what the Iglesia ni Cristo believes in; Part Two is on what the Catholic Faith teaches on those same points.

Pope Francis, talking about Interreligious dialogue in Evangelii gaudium (no. 251) explains: “In this dialogue, ever friendly and sincere, attention must always be paid to the essential bond between dialogue and proclamation, which leads the Church to maintain and intensify her relationship with non-Christians (cf. Propositio 53). (…) True openness involves remaining steadfast in one’s deepest convictions, clear and joyful in one’s own identity, while at the same time being “open to understanding those of the other party” and “knowing that dialogue can enrich each side” (JOHN PAUL II, Encyclical Letter Redemptoris Missio (7 December 1990), 56). What is not helpful is a diplomatic openness which says “yes” to everything in order to avoid problems, for this would be a way of deceiving others and denying them the good which we have been given to share generously with others. Evangelization and interreligious dialogue, far from being opposed, mutually support and nourish one another (Cf. BENEDICT XVI, Address to the Roman Curia (21 December 2012); VATICAN II, Decree on the Missionary Activity of the Church Ad Gentes, 9; Catechism of the Catholic Church, 856.)”

We pray that the wish of the Lord Jesus Christ at the Last Supper (“that they may all be one, even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee”) become a reality in the hearts of all Christians, so that the one Church founded by Him may become an agent of unity for all mankind.

+ ORLANDO CARDINAL QUEVEDO, O.M.I.
Archbishop of Cotabato
Chairman, Commission on the Doctrine of the Faith, CBCP – 25 March 2014

PART ONE
THE BASIC BELIEFS OF THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO*

I. Jesus Christ and the Church He Founded
1. What does the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) teach about God?

There is only one God. He alone is God (Ps. 86:10). “For I am God, and there is no other” (Is. 45:21-22; Is. 46:9-10; Dt. 32:39, RSV). The INC interprets these as proofs against the Trinity of Persons in one God. God is unchangeable, immutable: “For I the Lord do not change” (Mal. 3:6, RSV). He did not and will not, become man or anything. Therefore, Jesus Christ is not God that became flesh. Christ is man, not God. And God is not man. “For I am God”, He emphasized, “and not man” (Hos. 11-9).

2. What does the Iglesia ni Cristo teach about Jesus Christ?

Despite His uniqueness when compared to all other men, Christ remains man in His state of being. Christ is never the true God. He is a true man (“But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God”: Jn. 8:40). When Apostle Matthew gave his account of the birth of Christ, he said that in the womb of Mary was a child (Mt 1:18), not a god. Christ, since birth, was subjected to the experiences and circumstances of human life, inherent in all men (sin, of course, excluded). The true God has no beginning nor is He a son of man (Ps 90:2; Num 23:19). He is Spirit (Jn. 4:24); He does not grow weary (Is 40:28), does not sleep (Ps 121:4). The true God is immortal (I Tim 1:17).
* The answers to the questions in this part are lifted from the INC publication This is the Iglesia ni Cristo (“The Church of Christ”).

3. Is Jesus Christ the Savior?

Tax-Payer's Money Used to Greet the INC 100th Foundation Anniversary

I share the views of Mr. Efren C. Carag who corageously pointed out the huge tax-payers money being used during the 100 Year Founding Anniversary of the INC of Manalo. This article was from Philippine Inquirer Online

On LGUs’ enviable recognition of INC
Nine pages of the July 27 issue of the Inquirer contained greetings to the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) on its 100th founding anniversary, including one on full page from the Office of the Mayor of Manila! Wow! These were in addition to such greetings in the earlier issues of the Inquirer, including INC’s less than one-fourth-page acknowledgement of the greetings.

The Inquirer was not the only media outfit that ran or aired such greetings. Billboards and tarpaulin sheets printed with words of felicitations for the religious sect could be found in every available nook and cranny of Metro Manila and, of course, Bulacan, where the INC has built a multibillion-peso multipurpose complex. There must have been a lot more of these messages in the rest of the country. (People are scrambling to greet the INC.)

As a Catholic, I cannot but envy the importance accorded to the INC. I am now a septuagenarian and I do not recall the Catholic Church being the subject of recognition of such breadth and scale, let alone in paid advertisements in the Inquirer.

As a Filipino, I lament the attention given to the INC. That the organization is a vaunted political force and influence is a given. Without doubt or question, the advertisers wish to be assured of the continuing vote of INC members to perpetuate them, their family, their children, their grandchildren and their great-grandchildren in power.

Such is just one part of my grievance.

My other concern is the source of funds used to pay for the publication and/or printing of the greetings. Most likely, it was the city, province or political unit; more specifically the Filipino people, with the taxes and exorbitant fees they pay for government services.

By the way, I do not take issue with the Inquirer’s multipage feature article on the INC in last July 27’s issue. I respect our constitutional guarantees on the freedom of religion and freedom of the press. What I cannot countenance is the implication from all this: how distant we still are from political uprightness and integrity.

http://tunaynalingkod.blogspot.com/2013/07/ang-araw-ng-paghuhukom.html

Tulad ng NEW ERA.

Ung i ay nagiging I na!

http://tunaynalingkod.blogspot.com/2013/12/december-25-birthday-of-sun.html

The CATHOLIC CHURCH' contribution to the IGLESIA NI KRISTO-1914

By 100% Katolikong Pinoy:

There may be friends from the Iglesia Ni Cristo (originally Iglesia ni Kristo) who will be jovially celebrating their sect’s 100th Anniversary this weekend. This marks their church’s 100th year of thriving from July 27, 1914, the date their sect has been registered in the Securities and Exchange Commission during the American rule. Along with your chatter with your INC friends about their sect’s achievements and assets, let us also share to them some of the significant contributions that our Holy Mother Church had unselfishly endowed to them for their use.

1. The word CHAPEL (“Kapilya”) – Members of the INC use this term often, than the politically correct term “gusaling pangsamba”. But little do they know that the word CHAPEL itself is of purely Catholic origin. The term is first used to call the small housing structures or shrines where the relic cloak of St. Martin of Tours is kept, thus CAPELLA (little cape), from the Latin word CAPA or cloak. The cloak is used by the French knights in their war efforts, asking the intercession of St. Martin of Tours for them to win the battles. As customary, the cloak is transportable, so various housing structures were built in every place to house the cloak relic. The Catholic people use those structures for worship, thus the word CHAPEL became of regular use to mean local small church buildings and communities.

The word CHAPEL/KAPILYA is not found in the Bible.

2. The word SANTA CENA (Holy Supper) – Since the Philippines has been under Spanish rule, Spanish language is once part of the Filipino familiar tongue. The Holy Mass then is also widely known as the Holy Supper (even until now), or Santa Cena in Spanish. The founders of the Iglesia Ni Kristo adapted this term to mean their own worship service, particularly using some items somewhat identical to the Catholic Holy Mass (that is, bread and wine)

3. The term ECCLESIASTICAL DISTRICT – From the word ECCLESIA, Latin word for “Church”. Latin-speaking Catholics derived ECCLESIA from the Greek word EKKLESIA, which means “a group of those who were called out.”. An Ecclesiastical District in the INC is in the same principle and means used by the Catholic Church – a group of smaller locales or churches in a significant territory.

4. The term PASTORAL VISITATION – This term constitutes a bishop or an archbishop visiting a parish or a religious entity/territoty for a specific purpose (can also be applied to the Pope, though the term would be a PAPAL VISIT). In the INC, this means a visit of their Executive Minister to a locale.

5. The term IGLESIA – a term used originally by Spanish-speaking Catholics hailing from Hispania (Iberian Peninsula), a transliteration of the Latin Word ECCLESIA. In Spanish -speaking countries, when you ride a taxi and say to a driver to drive you to an IGLESIA, the cab driver will drive you to the nearest Catholic Church in the area.

Other also noteworthy contributions are the following.

1. The famous architect of their houses of worship is a devout Catholic named Carlos A. Santos-Viola. Gaining respect from the INC, he was repeatedly invited to join the sect, but he declines every time. Carlos served in the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Quezon City and died on July 31, 1994.

2. Without the Gregorian Calendar promulgated by Pope Gregory XIII, there might be no observance of the July 27, 2014 Anniversary or the date would be different

—————————–.

We wish our friends in the Iglesia ni Cristo 1914 a peaceful, contemplative and worthwhile observance of their church’s 100th [FOUNDING] Anniversary! And to our Catholic brothers and sisters, BE PROUD AND THANKFUL of this generous and all-embracing UNIVERSAL (Catholic) CHURCH that we all belong! [INC's knows the CATHOLIC CHURCH is still the TRUE CHURCH JESUS FOUNDED).

Philippine Religious Sect Opens the Largerst Arena

News around the world about the Iglesia ni Cristo- branded as a RELIGIOUS SECT- not as the "true" Church of Christ as they claim. TRUTH prevails!

MANILA: Philippine President Benigno Aquino presided over the opening on Monday of what is billed as the world's largest indoor stadium, erected by a politically-influential religious sect.

The USD 175-million Philippine Arena, which can seat 55,000 people, was hailed as a showcase that will serve as a major venue for concerts and sports events as well as gatherings for its owners, the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ) sect.

"...However the Singapore National Stadium, completed in June, also seats 55,000 people and has been hailed in the press as the world's largest domed structure.

An increasingly influential Christian sect in the Philippines opened what it claimed to be “the largest theater in the world” on Monday. President Benigno Aquino led the inauguration ceremony at the Philippine Arena north of Manila, where Iglesias ni Cristo (Church of Christ) kicked off its centenary celebrations.
Manila, July 22 (TruthDive): Philippine President Benigno Aquino headed over the opening of what is touted as the world's largest indoor stadium on Monday. The $175-million Philippine Arena can seat 55,000 people and was welcomed as a display cabinet that will function as a main venue for sports events and concerts as well as gatherings for its owners, the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ) sect. By considering the seating capacity of the arena alone, the Philippine Arena is double the size of the largest vaulted arenas in Europe and in the United States.

Taxpayer sues PHLPost over Iglesia ni Cristo postage stamp

Again, the Philippine Inquirer nailed the facts that FELIX MANALO is the FOUNDER of the Iglesia ni Cristo®

Centennial Commemorative Stamp from PhilPost featuring INC's Founder and First Executive Minister Felix Y. Manalo.
MANILA, Philippines—A taxpayer has taken legal action against the Philippine Postal Corp. or PHLPost for its issuance of postage stamps marking the 100th founding anniversary of Iglesia ni Cristo, saying that public funds should not be used to benefit a religious group.

Renato Peralta of Las Piñas City filed for injunction last week in the Manila Regional Trial Court to stop PHLPost, a government-owned corporation, from paying for the printing of the INC centennial postage stamps and to stop their distribution.

“Coming up with the commemorative stamp of the INC is tantamount to sponsorship of a religious activity” which is prohibited by the Constitution, Peralta said.

Reached by the Inquirer for comment, Peralta said he was a court employee and a member of a Christian group. He said the issue was the use of public funds when “there is no legitimate government activity.”

There will be a hearing on July 4 at Branch 33 of the Manila Regional Trial Court, he said.

The INC will mark its 100th year of registration in the Philippines on July 27. The postage stamp shows the INC Central Temple and a portrait of the late Felix Manalo, founder and first executive minister...

Philippine Postal Corporation Honors the Founder of the Iglesia ni Cristo® by issuing Commemorative Stamp on its 100th Year Celebration

PASUGO Enero 1964, p. 6:

MANILA, Philippines (PDI Online)—The Philippine Postal Corp. (Philpost) on Saturday launched the Iglesia ni Cristo Centennial Commemorative Stamp at the INC Central Office in Diliman, Quezon City, to mark the 100th anniversary of the church’s registration in the Philippines.
In ceremonies held at the INC’s Bulwagan, Postmaster General Ma. Josefina M. de la Cruz and Executive Minister Eduardo V. Manalo unveiled the stamp that features the INC Central Temple and the late Felix Y. Manalo, founder and first executive minister of the INC, in sepia. At the bottom of the stamp is the INC centennial logo in color.
The launch coincided with the 128th birth anniversary of Felix Y. Manalo.
The stamp, 50 millimeters by 35 mm, is bigger than the ordinary-sized 40 mm by 30 mm stamps, which De la Cruz said was “not an arbitrary decision.”
Twice the number
“It passed through certification by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines,” she said.
De la Cruz said Philpost will issue 1.2 million of the stamps, which is more than twice the number of stamps they usually issue for a single design.
After the unveiling, Manalo, De la Cruz and Philpost chair Cesar Sarino participated in the ceremonial signing of the INC stamp’s “first day cover.”
De la Cruz also presented a souvenir frame of the centennial stamp to the INC leader.
In his speech, Manalo noted the significance of the launch date of the centennial stamp in remembering the founder of the INC and his ministry.

PhilStar said: “Felix Manalo Founded the INC® in its update on QC traffic caused by this cult massive campaign propaganda

Adamant INC paid Ministers would deny that Felix Manalo didn’t found the INC but Christ.

So why can’t they just correct these professional journalists to straighten their reporting based on “facts” so that they would say Christ founded the INC® in the Philippines?

But of course, their official position even it’s “official” does not necessarily based on FACTS

Journalism requires honesty based on FACTS. That alone will guarantee us that what we hear or read are TRUE to their values.

So consistently, as I have predicted, before their 100th FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY, all reporters locally and international would be saying the same…

"The traffic scheme shall remain in effect for the duration of the INC event, which will also coincide with the eve of the 128th birth anniversary of INC's founder and first executive minister Felix Manalo" - PhilStar

FACTS: What you should know about the Iglesia ni Cristo®

MANILA, Philippines (Rappler) – This day in 1914, the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) was officially registered by Felix Manalo, a Catholic who became dissatisfied with theological teachings he grew up with.

Manalo came up with new-found doctrines that have become the foundation of a new church which he initially established in Sta Ana, Manila.

From its humble beginnings in Manila, the INC has gained a nationwide, and even worldwide, following.

After 99 years, INC has remained alive, and has become a significant part of history. Its large following has become a vital part of the country’s social and political life through the years.

It has been known to lobby for government posts for members of its church. Among its members who were appointed to various posts are Land Transportation Office chief Virginia Torres, former Justice secretaries Serafin Cuevas and Artemio Tuquero, former Court of Appeals Justice Nicolas Lapeña Jr, former National Bureau of Investigation chiefs Reynaldo Wycoco and Magtanggol Gatdula, and former Philippine National Police chief Edgardo Aglipay.

Political leaders and even presidential aspirants have sought audiences with the Manalos, seeking their endorsement.

Debate over whether the INC has remained influential continues, but most political strategists prefer to err on the side of caution, still opting to seek the blessing of the INC head.

The group is now headed by the founder’s grandson, Eduardo Manalo – the 3rd person to have become the groups’ leader.
